Please find below a list of disorders related to the diagnostic category, Disorders Usually First Diagnosed in Infancy, Childhood, or Adolescence. The Child and Adolescent Disorders, ADHD and Disruptive Behaviors Disorders, and Neurodevelopmental Disorders Work Groups have been responsible for addressing these disorders. For a conceptual overview of developmental issues in DSM-5, which are being addressed by members of these work groups as well as members of the Lifespan Developmental Approaches Study Group, please see the paper by Pine et al. (in: Evolution of the DSM-V Conceptual Framework: Development, Dimensions, Disability, Spectra, and Gender/Culture; in press). Among the work groups’ proposals is that of a new disorder, potentially labeled temper dysregulation with dysphoria (though other diagnostic labels, including severe mood dysregulation, are being considered). However, this recommendation remains under heavy discussion as work group members deliberate about its relationship with other diagnoses, including oppositional defiant disorder and pediatric bipolar disorder. As such, members are working closely with the Mood Disorders Work Group on this revision. Additionally, the proposal of a callous/unemotional specifier for conduct disorder is being carefully examined in light of potential stigma and clinical utility. Finally, the diagnosis Feeding Disorder of Infancy or Early Childhood is being addressed by the Eating Disorders Work Group, under the proposed diagnosis of Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder. We appreciate your review and comment on these disorders.
