Gender and Cross-Cultural Issues 

The Gender and Cross-Cultural Study Group was chaired by Kimberly Yonkers, M.D., and the Cross-Cultural Issues Sub-Group was co-chaired by Roberto Lewis-Fernández, M.D., M.T.S. The study group was convened to address gender, racial, and ethnic issues in mental disorders, including differences in symptoms, symptom severity, and course of illness. Its members conducted thorough reviews of the literature and secondary analyses of international data sets to determine where possible differences exist and have advised work group members in addressing these differences, either in the text descriptions of the disorders or possibly in the diagnostic criteria themselves.
